Use this checklist the day an appliance delivery shows up. The 7-Point Delivery-Day Checklist

1. Take photos of everything before you touch it

Unbox, but don't assemble. Photograph the box corners, the foam inserts, and the serial number stickers. 7. "Why is my smart plug blinking red?"—the diagnosis you should do first

When a smart plug blinks red, the natural move is to blame the appliance. Don't. Take a photo of the blink pattern first. Then look up the LED chart in the plug's manual. A blinking red light usually means one of three things:

  • Overload protection tripped—the load exceeds the plug's rating.
  • Ground or neutral wiring issue—especially in older homes.
  • Firmware update in progress, or a lost Wi-Fi/neutral connection.

If you're using a Lasko space heater with a smart plug, start with the overload explanation. It's the most common. Then check the plug's wattage rating and the heater's power draw. If the plug is rated too low, the fix is a different plug, not a different heater. If the plug is rated correctly and still flickers red, test it with a low-power lamp. Three mistakes I still see on delivery day
